Italy: from October 23, firing or disciplining with AI requires a human decision-maker, or it is void
From October 23, 2026, any hiring, evaluation, disciplinary or dismissal decision made with AI in Italy must be taken by a person with real authority, or it will be void, even if the employee consented. The EU platform work directive, which reserves account suspensions to humans, must be transposed by December 2, while a French Senate bill would ban disciplinary sanctions based automatically on an algorithm's output.
